Rainy Day Project ~ French Lavender Sachets

Handmade Lavender Sachets

Rain, rain, go away....
Come again another day!

It's been raining and storming a LOT here.
When I can't go outside.....  I always find myself "cleaning".  I was organizing my crafts studio and found some boxes of vintage fabric, lace and buttons.
Little bits of this and that.  Not enough to make anything big.
What to do with them??
I decided to make French Lavender filled sachets.
I made a bunch of them.  No two are alike.
My house smells soooooo good!
I gave some away, kept a few for myself and am selling the others in my Etsy shop:  https://www.etsy.com/shop/theporcelainrose?ref=si_shop

I wish everyone a safe and happy
Memorial Day!

Southern Belle's ~ Little Ladies of the Past

  Southern Belle's

I love antique linens.
I am most fond of embroidered pieces.
I especially love those with Southern Belle's.  Little ladies of the past.
They are beautiful and the hand work is amazing!
Each piece a work of art.
I am but the temporary keeper of these beauties.  I hope to one day pass them on to someone else who will love them as I have.

Have a wonderful week!
Many blessings.
Elizabeth

A Walk In The Garden

My Cottage Garden

I especially love my gardens in the Spring time.
My flowers are at their loveliest.

With the unusual weather we have been having.....  they are a little behind schedule.  This time last week they were coved in snow.  They lost most of their blooms but seem to have recovered very well.

Enjoy -
Have a great weekend.

Fashion Cents - 1950's Make Over

Altered 1950's Black Velvet Bag

When I found this 1950's black velvet bag I thought it was beautiful "as is"..... but, knew I could make it "fabulous"! ...and for $22 I couldn't pass it up.
I also picked up some creamy white millinery flowers (an old hat), a few brass charms, some old rhinestone buttons and some black lace.
I knew before I left the store that I was going to add the millinery rose but had no idea I would end up using  the other pieces, too.
When I got it home....  on closer inspection.....  it had some issues.  I needed to make some alterations if I intended to "use" the purse.
I covered up some of the flaws with the brass charms.  I wanted the millinery rose to be the focal point but it had issues as well.  While the rose was in perfect "vintage" condition the leaves were falling apart and an ugly lime green.  So.....  I cut leaves from the black lace and "covered" the original leaves.  An "over lay" effect. Now they look wonderful!  The bits of green slightly peeking through the lace (I tried to catch that in the 4tyh photo).
With the remaining lace....  I made some little flowers and used the rhinestone buttons as centers.
I glued the remaining button to the center of  the leaf charm and added a lace tie to the handle.
Now it is truely "fabulous"!
I love it!
Oh!  and did I mention.......  it has a gorgeous pink satin lining!!

Mother Nature ~ Snow in May?

Snow in May????
I can't believe the weather we are having.
Air conditioner to heater!
Mother Nature is having hot flashes.  She can't make up her mind!
I worked outside all weekend.  Sunday afternoon I was sweating bullets.....  almost 90 degrees.
I cleaned out the flower beds....  pulling weeds, amending the soil and adding mulch.  For a couple of days it looked so pretty.
Just a few days later....  freezing rain!!  And today......  SNOW!!  Up to 8"!  It's never snowed here in May..... at least not that I remember and I've lived here all my life.
My poor Rose bushes!  The blooms are wilted and covered with snow.  I hope there isn't to much damage to my gardens.
There is a silver lining..... we have recovered some from the drought we had last summer.

Stay warm (or cool)! and have a wonderful weekend!
